Oneida Nation Files Lawsuit Against Lago Casino Project

The Oneida Indian Nation says it's filed suit against a decision by the NYS Gaming Commission to award a license to the  Lago Resort & Casino in Seneca County. The suit was also filed on behalf of members of a local opposition group, Casino Free Tyre.

The Oneidas, who operate the Turning Stone Casino in Central New York, claim the commission's selection process was subjective, and ignored the kind of analysis that is mandated under the Gaming Act. The Oneidas also contend that a state siting board eliminated other applicants for a casino based on factors that it completely ignored in the case of Lago.

A spokesperson for the gaming commission had no comment.  But a statement was issued by the developers of Lago  and they call the Oneida's action  a "misguided" lawsuit.  The developers say the suit is being filed despite the well-considered, lawful actions of the gaming commission and the significant economic benefits Lago will provide for the region and the state.
