A man in Greece is dead, shot by police there after authorities say he pointed a rifle at an officer.
It happened just after 2:00 a.m. on Betwood Lane. Police Chief Patrick Phelan says it started with a man at that address calling 911 saying he was going to kill his wife.
Phelan says a Greece office arrived minutes later at that house.
"Upon arrival the officer exited his car, as he exited the car he was approached by a man who was holding a long gun; he directed the male to drop the gun, the male refused to drop the gun and pointed the gun at the officer; the officer shot the male and killed him."
Phelan says the man’s wife had apparently been home asleep when this all happened. He says it’s too early to say if this was a suicide attempt by the man who died, but that is one thing they will look into. The officer was not injured.
No names are being released yet. The officer, who was not injured, is a 2 year veteran of the Greece Police Department.
