Ontario County deputies say a woman died in a fire in Honeoye Falls on Thursday night. It happened at a house on State Route 65.
When deputies got there they found the back of the home engulfed in flames and heavy smoke. One resident was able to escape, but he was unable to get his relative out of the house because of the heat and smoke.
Firefighters found the woman on the second story of the home; she had collapsed at the top of a stairwell and authorities say she was pronounced dead at the scene, apparently due to the heavy smoke.
Two pets died in the fire but one cat was saved and there was extensive damage to the house. Ontario County fire investigators say it appears the fire began in the kitchen, but the exact cause is still under investigation.
