NYSP Superintendent Stepping Down

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state's top cop is stepping down.

New York State Police Superintendent Joseph D'Amico's resignation was confirmed by a police spokesman on Friday.

No reason was given for his departure.

D'Amico became the leader of the State Police in 2011 after being nominated by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Previously D'Amico had worked as chief investigator in the office of the New York state Attorney General and spent 27 years in the New York City Police Department.

It will be up to Cuomo to pick D'Amico's replacement.

The resignation was first reported by The New York Post.
