NYS Agencies Cut Use Of Paper

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York's government agencies report cutting their use of paper by 43 percent and saving $11.1 million over four years.

A new report on state efforts on so-called green procurement also shows a 35 percent decrease in waste generated from the 2008-2009 fiscal year through 2011-2012.

The report also notes an average recycling rate of 56 percent at state agencies and the virtual elimination in purchases of bottled water.

While 85 percent of the agencies reporting now use green cleaning products, 80 percent have implemented policies to reduce energy use, and 79 percent have programs to re-use office supplies.
