No sign yet of missing toddler in Sodus; search to resume on Monday

An intensive search continued in the area of a Sodus farm on Sunday with no sign yet of 14 month old Owen Hidalgo Calderon.

Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts says that 200 searchers from several area police and fire departments, ENCON Police and other agencies again combed through areas around the 350 acre farm on Joy Road.

Authorities had recovered the body of Owen’s mother, 18 year old Selena Hidalgo-Calderon, from a wooded area of the farm on Wednesday.

Her boyfriend, Alberto Reyes has been charged at this point with tampering with physical evidence, accused of removing the body from the home the couple shared and burying it between two logs.

Hildago-Calderon, who was from Guatemala, was a migrant farmworker. The family reportedly was seeking asylum in the U.S.

Virts says that search efforts will continue on Monday. He  previously has described the search as being a ‘recovery’ operation, expressing doubts the toddler will be found alive.

Anyone with information about the missing child is asked to call 911.
