New Video Emphasizes Safety in Work Zones

wxxinews

Gary Farrell was working as a flagger in work zone in 2009 when he was struck and killed by a vehicle.

A new Public Service Announcement features his wife Michelle asking motorists to slow down and be more aware of their surroundings in work zones.

State DOT spokesperson Lori Maher says a highway work zone is someone's work environment, and when drivers don't slow down or pay attention, the risk to those workers is very real.

Last year, the State Department of Transportation reports there were 525 accidents in work zones, resulting in 149 injuries and 2 fatalities.

Here's a linkto the public service announcement.
