A New Use For 'Theatre On The Ridge'

Excell Partners

There is new life for the Kodak on the Ridge Theatre.  A local arts group will take over operation of the complex.

That building at Lake Avenue and Ridge Road used to be bustling with activity when Kodak was a larger company, but it hasn't been getting nearly as much use in recent months.  But with nearly two thousand seats, it provided a good opportunity for  RAPA, The Rochester Association for Performing Arts.  That's an educational arts organization which now has a facility on Main Street in Rochester.

RAPA president and CEO Jim Vollertsen says they need more space.

"The arts council and so forth felt there was a real need for organizations like ours that maybe want to do the one big production a year or , it's an incredible theater space, it has the largest stage in Rochester, and it's got parking, it's got all the assets, " Vollertsen told WXXI News.

As part of this arrangement, RAPA will not just use Theatre on the Ridge for its own productions, but it will also make it available for other local theater and arts groups. RAPA will continue to use its existing facility on East Main Street.
