Future home for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County

Monroe County and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County have reached an agreement that will see the Extension move its headquarters into a 1900s farmhouse at 2449 Saint Paul Boulevard.

Director of the Monroe County Department of Parks, Larry Staub, explains the county acquired property in the area to expand parking for the Seneca Park Zoo.

The farmhouse was part of the purchase, and the agreement calls for Cornell Cooperative Extension to lease that space in the farmhouse, which is being renovated by the Parks Department.

Monroe County will then acquire Cornell Cooperative's current home in Highland Park, demolish it, and turn it back into park land.

Executive Director for Cornell Cooperative Extension, Susan Maney, says this will allow them to better focus on delivering programs once the new building opens next January.

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks calls this a "win-win" for the entire community.

The agreement needs approval from the Monroe County Legislature, but it's expected the new headquarters for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County will open in January, 2015.
