MVP Cutting Some Jobs Statewide

MVP Health Care is announcing that it will be cutting 100 jobs across Upstate NY.  The exact number affected in Rochester was not available.

The HMO says some of the reductions will happen through attrition or positions left vacant, as well as layoffs.

MVP says it's part of an ongoing effort to improve efficency and to keep providing 'excellent and affordable health coverage' in the wake of health care reform.

Denise Gonick, the President and CEO of MVP issued a statement saying that the organization needs to keep its health plans affordable in a very competitive marketplace. She says the health insurance industry is going through a time of unprecedented change and MVP needs a "streamlined and nimble organization to stay ahead of the curve."

Affected employees will receive severance and will be encouraged to apply for other jobs within MVP. Gornick emphasized that MVP members and providers will not be affected by the workforce reduction.

Before retiring in March 2025, Randy Gorbman was WXXI's director of news and public affairs and managed the day-to-day operations of WXXI News on radio, television, and online.
