There's word that the Muller Quaker Dairy plant in Batavia is closing. But it also appears that a new owner will take it over.
That plant was opened just over two years ago, and the $200 million dollar plant had at one point, employed about 200 people at the Genesee Agri-Business Park.
A statement from the Genesee County Economic Development Center says that while they are extremely disappointed about the announcement, they are optimistic the state of the art manufacturing facility will continue to play a key role in the agricultural sector, and remain a major employer.
New York state economic development officials said late Thursday afternoon that Müller Quaker Dairy, which built the facility, would sell it to Dairy Farmers of America, a large milk cooperative based in Missouri.
But it appears that a number of jobs will be saved. New York’s Economic Development agency, Empire State Development, released a statement saying that it will be working with the new plant owner, Dairy Farmers of America, to restart operations soon.
