A $56.6 million project has completely renovated the Cedars of Chili affordable housing complex.

The 18-month project, overseen by WinnDevelopment, modernized 320 apartments in Chili, one of the largest affordable complexes in the area.

In addition to upgrading the community room and laundry rooms, all kitchens and bathrooms were renovated and heating and cooling systems were replaced.

The community will also see a new basketball court, new siding and a new playground.

Town of Chili Councilman Mark DeCory said the quality of life has improved across the board.

"When projects such as this enhance the quality of life for its residents, it brings value to the whole town. It’s not just one little segment, the whole town. Chili's a place of destination for people moving into Monroe County. And the Cedars of Chili community insures housing opportunities for anyone wanting to live in our great town."

The renovations also included 17 fully equipped accessible apartments. Cedars of Chili had none before this.

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo also spoke at the event saying the apartments are an investment in Chili.

"We have to make sure that when we're expanding economic opportunity that the people who live here have an affordable place to live and good quality of life as well."

A majority of the apartments will be reserved for households earning at or below 60% of the area median income for the next 40 years.

The project was supported by New York State Homes and Community Renewal's Housing Finance Agency which provided tax-exempt bonds to support the construction loan and first mortgage.
