Monroe County residents are being warned about a telephone scam. County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo says it involves a caller who will tell the person who answers the phone that they have a warrant out for their arrest if they fail to dial an out-of-state phone number by 5:00 p.m. that same day and make payment.
The caller ID appears as if it's a number from the county clerk's office and the scammer identifies herself as calling from the Monroe County Clerk's Office.
Dinolfo says her office does not make phone calls about warrants or demanding that anyone make payment over the phone. She says if you get a call like this, do not return the call and never send money to an unknown caller who demands payment.
