More than $3.2 million dollars is coming to Monroe County to help with lead abatement. That according to Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Congresswoman Louise Slaughter.
They say the money will include funds that will go to the county health department to help address lead hazards in 270 housing units. The county will work with the state health department on the effort.
The grant is part of a program which aims to identify and control lead-based paint hazards in some privately-owned housing.
Altogether communities in Upstate NY are receiving more than $13 million as part of these grants.
Monroe County issued a statement saying the county has reduced the incidence of childhood lead poisoning by 80 percent since 2001.
