The town of Greece has unveiled a new Memorial Hall to honor those who have fought for our country.
Memorial Hall is located in Greece Town Hall, and contains some of the history of the town in the military, along with a new plaque from Greece Post 468 and a portrait of Gary Beikirch, a resident of Greece and this area's only recipient of the Medal of Honor.
He says honoring our vets is one way to help them heal.
"Remembering and honoring the sacrifice and service, that's getting better. And that's what brings healing from the trauma of war. And this memorial hall is an example of that, " he said.
In addition to Memorial Hall, there is the Gary Beikirch Veterans Memorial Wall, which displays the names of 5,000 military personnel from Greece who have fought during a time of combat.
Another 20 names will be added to the wall on Memorial Day.
Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich says the town of Greece has a rich history with the men and women who have fought for our nation.
