MAGIC Spell Studios has officially launched at Rochester Institute of Technology.
It's designed to bring together a number of digital media disciplines, according to the director of the studio, Andrew Phelps.
He says MAGIC Spell Studios is partly the for-profit studio that's embedded in Student Innovation Hall, but soon it will be housed in a new on-campus facility.
"The facility will serve both the needs of the campus as well as the studio as an accelerator for economic development."
Industry partners and Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul was on hand for the launching of MAGIC Spell Studios.
She said RIT continues to be a center of high-tech innovation for the Fingers Lakes and all of New York.
Hochul say it will be the launching pad for the next generation of digital gaming entrepreneurs.
The new on-campus facility is made possible through $13 million funding from the state, $15 million from Dell and Cisco Systems, and another $1.5 million from the Wegman Family Charitable Foundation.
