63 year old Ronald Nau bought a five dollar lottery ticket because it was only one in the machine and there was a line behind him.
Turned out to be his lucky day, as the Wegmans vendor won the top one million dollar prize in the New York Lottery's "20X the Cash" game.
New York Lottery personality Yolanda Vega presented a check to Nau and his wife Diane at the Wegmans store on Mt. Read Boulevard, where Nau bought the ticket.
Nau says he went from denial to elation when it was apparent he won top prize.
The couple agreed they would do one "crazy thing" with their winnings, so she wants a second honeymoon in Hawaii, and he wants to wake up debt-free.
Even if it lasts only one day.
The couple has been married 42 years, and Nau jokes his wife married him for his money.
It just took 42 years to get it.
They decided to take a lump sum payment of $555,912.
The New York Lottery claims to be North America's largest and most profitable lottery, contributing over 3-billion to education in fiscal year 2012-2013.
Over 161-million of Lottery Aid to Education went to schools in Monroe County.
