Local Company Lands Contract With Lenovo

Vuzix

A high-tech Brighton company has landed a  major contract with a well-known computer company in China.

The local company is Vuzix, which makes video eyewear and smart glasses, and the computer company is Lenovo, the big PC maker.

Vuzix has signed a deal to sell its M100 Smart Glasses in China. They will be co-branded with both the Vuzix and Lenovo names on them and the agreement calls for the internet -connected glasses to be sold in the industrial and commercial markets in China and allows for the expansion into other markets.

Vuzix Director of Sales Mike Hallett tells WXXI News this is a significant contract for his company.

"Lenovo is the number one PC manufacturer in the world and to get a strong partner like Lenovo in a partnership with smart glasses, it's a very big deal for Vuzix."

Hallett says one example of an application for these glasses is that they could be used by a worker in a warehouse who needs to do things like scan bar codes and pick orders hands-free.    The wearable device market is now dominated by Google Glass. Vuzix officials hope that eventually their company and Lenovo can partner on other products.
