Rochester City Court Judge Leticia Astacio was arrested at her home on Tuesday afternoon.
That’s according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department which says the 36 year old Rochester resident was charged with ‘attempted criminal purchase or disposal of a weapon.’
That is a felony charge. Deputies say the arrest stems from an incident at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Henrietta on April 2.
She was released on her own recognizance pending a court appearance in Henrietta Town Court on May 3.
Authorities had earlier said Astacio had tried to buy a shotgun at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Henrietta on April 2, but was turned away by store employees based on store policy.
The D&C notes that the terms of Astacio’s probation from an earlier DWI conviction prohibit her from owning a gun.
