The latest jobs numbers for the Rochester area from the NYS Labor Department  show something we haven't seen for the last several months...an increase in jobs.

The monthly gains had been relatively strong over the last few years, but the last several months saw the employment figures decline and state labor analyst Tammy Marino believes that was mostly due to a change in the way the numbers were gathered.

She says the recent survey seems to more accurately reflect where the local job market stands right now.

For June, the Rochester metro saw an increase of  2,500 private sector jobs compared to a year ago, and Marino believes that positive trend will continue.

“Employment currently stands at its highest June level in more than a decade and I would expect this trend to continue into the coming months as we do have more employers that are looking to hire. So put it all together, the local job market appears to be very healthy and continues to expand.”

Marino says much of the recent job gains came in seasonal areas, such as construction and recreation related industries.
