The President of the University of Rochester, Joel Seligman today announced that Jamal Rossi will keep his new title, and remain the Dean of the Eastman School of Music.
The announcement was made at Kilbourn Hall.
An international search was conducted following the death of Dean Doug Lowry last October. He died after a battle with cancer. He had been dean for six years.
Jamal Rossi, previously the Executive Associate Dean, was appointed to fill the dean’s position last year while the search went on. Rossi has been with Eastman since 2005.
Seligman said that, “Jamal was selected because of an outstanding track record of accomplishment, including his leadership of the Eastman Theatre renovation and expansion project, his indisputable ability to lead the School, and his determination to work with the faculty, staff, alumni and students to craft a new strategic plan that will take Eastman to a new level of even greater accomplishment as the nation’s leading school of music.”
An active saxophone soloist and chamber musician, Rossi is featured on numerous recordings. He has given solo recitals and performed with community, college, and military bands and orchestras, including the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
