Wegmans will begin to offer same-day delivery in the Rochester area on Tuesday, partnering with a San Francisco company called Instacart.
And now we get word that the service will also include some other retailers.
As of Tuesday, Wegmans begins to provide same-day delivery in parts of the Rochester and Canandaigua areas.
It does come at a cost over what you would normally pay in the store, there are fees both for the delivery, and the price of the various items you get may be higher than what you pay in the supermarket.
The service has already begun in Buffalo, and Instacart’s operations manager for the northeast, Kyle Carnes, says demand in that market has already had strong demand.
He also told WXXI News that Instacart will be providing same-day delivery for some other retailers in the Rochester area.
“So we’re partnering with Wegmans, Costco, Petco, Price Rite and CVS; our goal is always to expand, so this is very new to us to be in Western New York and Upstate New York, so over the next few months and the next year, we definitely plan on expansion.”
Even with the higher prices for same-day delivery, Carnes says the goal here is to eventually reduce those prices.
“Our end goal at Instacart is to make this service cost as much as a cup of coffee. Right now, it’s a little bit of a premium service but eventually that’s where we want to get, to offer this service to everyone.”
