Homeless Advocates Arrested At The Monroe County Office Building

TWC News

A protest by advocates for the homeless at the Monroe County office building Monday ended with three arrests.

Sister Grace Miller of the House of Mercy was among those arrested after allegedly refusing to leave the county building after being told to leave by security.

Also arrested were 70 year old John Malthaner and 31 year old Ryan Acuff.  They all face charges of  3rd degree criminal trespass.

Deputies say the three demonstrators refused to stay in an area designated for the protest and were being disruptive.

Altogether, authorities say there were around 30 protestors at that demonstration.

They are trying to help homeless people recently locked out of the Civic Center garage in Rochester.

Advocates for the homeless also protested last Friday calling on the county to find an alternative place for those using the garage to stay, especially when the colder weather gets here. The county had issued a statement last week saying that it  already invests nearly $5 million and contracts with 17 area shelters for emergency housing every year.
