Greece School District voters approve 'Reimagine Greece' capital projects

Voters in the Greece Central School District overwhelmingly approved a package of capital projects on Tuesday.

By a vote of 2,836 in favor to 653 against, voters today approved the” Reimagine Greece”  capital improvement project.

Reimagine Greece will  fund the construction of a new shared facility on Latta road for transportation and support services, and improve high school athletic facilities with the addition of synthetic turf and lights at all four campuses.

“We are so excited by the support shown today for our Reimagine Greece project,” said Superintendent Kathleen Graupman. “Thanks to voters, we will now be able to increase school security, update our facilities, and add synthetic turf and lights to all four high school campuses.”

District officials say that the project, which totals more than $107 million, will not increase school taxes.

It is being funded through a combination of state aid, capital reserves, and reallocating money that had been used to pay off debt from an earlier capital project.

The next step now is to pick an architect and engineering firm to design the project. Certain priority projects, such as those related to safety, could begin as soon as next summer. Most Reimagine Greece project work is not expected to begin until 2021 with completion targeted for 2025.
