Officials from Greece and Irondequoit, two of the area towns that were among the hardest hit towns from Wednesday’s wind storm, released additional details on Saturday.
Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich lifted the Travel Ban in the Town of Greece. But he says due to current conditions throughout the town, the State of Emergency is still in effect.
The National Guard has been deployed. They arrived at the Greece Community and Senior Center on Saturday.
Reilich says they have accommodated well over a hundred at the Greece Community and Senior Center, many seeking shelter from the cold throughout the day. Many families are making the Center their temporary home and staying over at night. He says the town has distributed over 500 bags of dry ice and countless cases of water as well since this wind event has started.
The supervisor says they continue to welcome any and all residents into the Community and Senior Center to get out of the cold. Dry Ice and Bottled water are also still available at our DPW Facility, 647 Long Pond Road around the clock.
In Irondequoit, Supervisor Dave Seeley says that the town-operated overnight shelter at Irondequoit High School is operated by Town Hall staff and If residents are interested in volunteering Saturday night, they can contact mvecchio@irondequoit.org.
There are extended hours at the Irondequoit Town Library this weekend to allow the Warming Station to continue to serve as a welcoming place for residents. The Library will be open from 10am – 7pm both today and tomorrow (Sunday).
Dry ice is available at the Ridge Culver Fire Department located at 2960 Culver Rd, on a first-come/first-serve basis. The department is also serving as a temporary shelter.
Irondequoit will have another "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" push, at 3:30pm Saturday, where volunteers help check up on homes with elderly residents. They will meet at 3:30pm Saturday in the front Lobby of Irondequoit High School, 260 Cooper Road.
