Ceremonies were held over the weekend in Florida celebrating the grand opening of The Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.
It’s located in Fort Myers, and it contains 128 beds with expansion capabilities up to 160 beds.
The children’s hospital opened in 1994 within HealthPark Medical Center, and in 2012 was renamed Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida after Paychex founder and philanthropist Tom Golisano donated $20 million to the capital campaign to build a new, state-of-the art facility.
The new facility includes a classroom where children can continue their studies in an educational environment while in the hospital as well as a 64-room Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The hospital will actually open for patients in early May.
Golisano took part in the Saturday ribbon-cutting. This is the third children’s hospital that bears his name along with the Golisano Children’s Hospital in Rochester and Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse.
