Geneseo Police Identify Three People Found Dead

TWC News

Geneseo Village Police have identified the three young people found dead in a house on Wadsworth St. early Sunday morning, not far from the SUNY Geneseo campus.

There were 2 men and one woman.  The woman is identified as 21 year old Kelsey Annese of Webster, and the two men identified as 24 year old Matthew Hutchinson of Vancouver, British Columbia and 24 year old Colin Kingston of Geneseo.

Police say Annese and Hutchinson were both current students and Kingston was a former student. Annese was a member of the SUNY Geneseo basketball team and Hutchinson a member of the school's hockey team. Annese and Hutchinson were both seniors.

Annese earned MVP honors at Webster Schroeder High School in 2012.

Officers say that Hutchinson was also a member of the Geneseo Volunteer Fire Department.

Annese lived at the house. Police say no gun was involved in the deaths, but a knife was recovered at the scene. They are not yet saying how the deaths may have occurred,  but they believe one of the three may have  been the perpetrator behind the incident.

It was reported at about 6:00 a.m. on Sunday when a call came into 911 from a man who said he had received a call from a family member who said he was involved in an incident on Wadsworth St.

Authorities do say they believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the surrounding community.

SUNY Geneseo set up a web pagewith information related to the deaths. On it, the university said it is "deeply saddened" about the deaths and the  statement says that it is the university's hope that "we can rally together to support each other during this time of mourning."

“We have experienced a terrible tragedy in Geneseo today involving members of our community,” said SUNY Geneseo President Denise  Battles. “The loss of Kelsey, Matthew, and Colin has profoundly affected our campus community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all involved. ”

SUNY Geneseo officials say classes will be in session on Tuesday as originally scheduled. They also say there is planning going on for a remembrance event.

The Webster School District issued this statement:

The Webster Central School District was saddened to learn of the death of 2012 Webster Schroeder High School graduate Kelsey Annese. Webster Schroeder High School counselors will be available for students and staff on Tuesday morning. The district's thoughts and prayers are with the Annese family during this difficult time.
