Gabrielle Giffords & Mark Kelly Visit RIT

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, and her husband Mark Kelly were in Rochester Saturday and  talked about the need to keep fighting, whatever challenges you face in life. The occasion was RIT's Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend.

Hundreds cheered former the former Arizona Congresswoman at the Gordon Field House, as she spoke a few words to the crowd after her husband, former Astronaut Mark Kelly, spent much of the hour or so visit by talking about his experiences in the military and in NASA, and how perseverance, especially by his wife, has helped them overcome adversity.

Giffords' speech is still greatly impacted by the bullet fired at her which went through her head in January of 2011, and she still undergoes intensive physical and speech therapy.

But she says she still wants to find ways to serve other Americans, and she hopes the RIT students have the same desire.

"I'm still fighting to make the world a better place, and you can too, be passionate, be courageous, be your best "

Giffords told the crowd, It's been a long hard haul, but I'm getting better.”
