A new program has been launched which is designed to bring healthy food to neighborhoods like Marketview Heights.
Among the many components in the "Growing Communities" initiative, is a "Curbside Market," a retro-fitted UPS truck operated by Foodlink which will offer fresh fruit and vegetables, according to Foodlink Executive Director Tom Ferraro.
He says the truck will make 25 stops a day in various city neighborhoods starting in July.
Citizens Bank presented a 121.5-thousand dollar grant for the program, which also includes several other components: a competition to transform corner stores into full line food stores, and a youth summer program provided by Pathstone to teach urban gardening, nutrition and budgeting.
The program also includes counseling for first-time home buyers and seminars for business owners in the Marketview Heights neighborhood.
