Flood Warnings Affect Monroe and Nearby Counties

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Flood Warning for the Genesee River at Portageville from Sunday morning to Monday morning.

At 11 am Saturday, the water depth at Portageville was 13.0 feet and rising. Flood stage is 19.0 feet.  Minor flooding is forecast.

The Genesee River is expected to rise above flood stage late Sunday morning and crest near 20.6 feet Sunday evening. After reaching the 19.0 feet flood stage the Genesee River could overflow into agricultural lands from Belfast in Allegany County to Letchworth State Park. Little damage is expected by the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Flood Warning for the Oatka Creek at Garbutt from Sunday evening to Tuesday morning.

At 11 am Saturday the water level in Oatka Creek was steady at 3.2 feet. Flood stage is 6.0 feet. Minor flooding is forecast. The creek is expected to rise above flood stage Sunday evening and crest near 6.4 feet Monday morning. After reaching 6.0 feet flood stage, general flooding of agricultural land begins with some basement flooding In Scottsville and Garbutt.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Flood Warning for Tonawanda Creek at Batavia from Sunday morning to Monday afternoon.

At 11 am Saturday the water level in Tonawanda Creek was 3.4 feet and rising. At flood stage of 9.0 feet, moderate flooding is forecast. The creek is expected to rise above flood stage Sunday morning and crest near 11.2 feet Sunday evening. At 10 feet, moderate flooding occurs from Batavia to Tonawanda, with most in the Alabama swamps and portions of the city of Batavia.
