Construction is underway on a unique new bus stop in the Rochester area.

"It's going to be a typical size bus shelter that you would see on the side of the road here in Rochester, only it will look like Legos."

Michael Governale of Reconnect Rochester is talking about the project underway at the intersection of Monroe Avenue and French Road in Pittsford.

They're building a Lego bus stop there.

It's the brain child of Lori Bajorek, who runs a children's program out of her home in Pittsford near the bus stop.

Governale says Legos are a big part her program called ArtsROC, and building a Lego bus shelter would help bring more attention to it, while also better serving transit customers.

"It seems to a be a win-win situation for her, and for Reconnect Rochester it fits right in with our mission supporting the public transit system."

Bajorek says she's worked on this project for years.

"Not just making a bus station that looks like everything else, but actually creating a work of art that becomes interactive so people will want to come, use public transportation, and look at the green energy."

Governale says his group helped Bajorek make connections with some people in the community who could help her get the bus shelter built.

Bajorek sold ad space on the shelter to pay for construction, and obtained approval for the project from the town of Pittsford and RTS.

While the shelter itself will be made of regular construction materials, it will look like a Lego structure, and also feature a mural made of Legos on the back wall.

Her students are helping with that mural.

Governale says the construction firm expects to complete the bus shelter in about a month.
