Fireworks and music in Downtown Rochester

Rochester will continue its annual July 4 Independence Day celebration downtown with fireworks set to a Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) performance on the Main Street Bridge.

The evening kicks off at 7:30 p.m. with a jazz performance on the Main Street Bridge by Paul C. Boutte and the Motown Review. The RPO, featuring Conductor Ward Stare, will follow with a performance of patriotic favorites from 9 - 10:15 p.m., featuring a fireworks display over Downtown at 10 p.m.

All events are free.

Free parking is available at the Court Street, South Avenue, Sister Cities and Washington Square garages.

Recommended viewing areas for the fireworks show are the Main Street Bridge, the Broad Street Bridge, Chestnut Street near the Washington Square Garage and the streets surrounding those areas.

The fireworks will be launched from the eastern side of the Genesee Riverway Trail, south of the Frederick Douglass-Susan B. Anthony Memorial Bridge.

Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets for more comfortable viewing. Officials ask that you refrain from bringing pets for everyone’s safety.

A number of streets and bridges will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, to 2 a.m., Thursday, July 5.

Main Street, from St. Paul Street to State Street will be closed to vehicle traffic from 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, to 2 a.m., Thursday, July 5.

Court Street Bridge, from Exchange Blvd to South Ave, will be closed to vehicle traffic from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 4. No parking will be allowed on the bridge anytime on Wednesday, July 4.

Broad Street Bridge, from Exchange Blvd to South Ave, will be closed to vehicle traffic from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 4. No parking will be allowed on the bridge anytime on Wednesday, July 4.

The Frank and Janet Lamb Sister Cities Bridge will be closed from 6 to 11 p.m. and the eastern side of the Genesee Riverway Trail from the Time Warner Cable building to South Avenue will close from 1 to 10:30 p.m. No stopping will be allowed on the Inner Loop or I-490.
