Federal Funds For Local Water

More than five-million dollars in federal money will build water systems for two local communities.

Following three years of planning, the Wayne county town of Marion will receive $1.5 million in grants and loans. They money will cover the cost to add water service to the Marion-East Williamson and Skinner Roads area.

In the Ontario County town of Richmond, $3.7 million of federal grants and loans will fund installation of water mains, a pump station and a 250,000 gallon water tank. This work will benefit 320 residents around Honeoye Lake by next year, according to officials. The lake sees blue-green algae pollution during the summer.

Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the funding, from the US Agriculture Department.
