Father-Child Reading Program Begins this Week
The goal for the Rochester City School District’s “Study Hour of Power” campaign is getting fathers to read to their kids.
Ernest Green is the father of a 9th grader at School of the Arts, and the author of the book “Pull Your Pants Up: A Message to All Our Sons.”
Green says many of today's young fathers grew up without a lot of direction and input from positive male influences.
He says his book is about character-building, one of the same goals of the district’s new campaign. The hope is that more positive father-child interactions will lead to better results in the classroom.
The “Study Hour of Power” launches Thursday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. and 6:00-7:00 p.m. Participating locations where dads can read to their kids during that time include the Central Library and the Southwest Neighborhood Association.
