Fatal car-train incident under investigation in Palmyra

Spectrum News

One woman is dead as the result of a collision between a car and a train in the Town of Palmyra Tuesday morning.

It happened just after 7:00 a.m., when Wayne County deputies say that the driver, who was alone in the car, was stopped at a railroad crossing on Hogback Hill Road.

Deputies say as the CSX freight train approached, the driver, 52 year old Heidi Sevor of Phelps, drove into the train’s path and was struck.

The 83-car freight train pushed the car a half-mile before coming to a stop. Authorities say there were no deficiencies with the equipment at the railroad crossing, but the investigation is continuing.
