Jennifer Henley of Facebook speaks to RIT students.

Jennifer Henley is the Director of Security Operations at Facebook. She gave a talk at RIT about cybersecurity, and says her job is more dynamic, challenging, and rewarding now than ever before.

Henley says the best way to increase security online is to get people to think about it before they are victimized. Henley says too many people don't care about about protecting themselves.

"Until something has gone wrong, security is something that's done in the background. It's there, it happens -- or, it's a hurdle. It's something they don't want to think about."

Henley says they're always thinking of inventing new ways to get Facebook employees to think about their vulnerability. Because if Facebook gets hacked, we all get hacked. The social network has over 1.44 billion monthly active users.

She says during cyber security awareness month, she and her team will send out fake emails with fake-malicious attachments in order to raise awareness about the dangers of phishing emails.

"Most companies get breached because of phishing emails or because of attachments that seem to be very normal that you're just going about your day-to-day business."

Henley says there are two top pieces of security advice that she gives people. First, use different passwords for every service. Second, enable two-step login verification on every website that allows it.
