An environmental advocacy group says they've found toxic chemicals in children's toys.

Clean and Healthy New York released a report detailing the presence of heavy metals such as cobalt, cadmium, antimony, and mercury in products used by kids.

Bobbi Chase Wilder is their Deputy Director. She says they were surprised by the dangerous levels of these harsh chemicals in toys, clothing, and accessories.

"Buckles on a girl's dress contained cobalt and cadmium, or jewelry that contained cobalt and cadmium, antimony showing up in a tiara that a little girl would wear on her head, mercury in hair clips."

Wilder says they're using the report to encourage lawmakers to pass the Child Safe Products Act.

"It's a bill that would start taking a broader look at toxic chemicals in children's products and requiring manufacturers to let us know if they're using them and ultimately to phase out those toxic chemicals."

Wilder says some counties have already taken action toward this kind of legislation, including Albany County.
