It's official, Sandra Doorley is Monroe County's first female District Attorney in 180 years.

The 20-year Assistant District Attorney was sworn in as Monroe County District Attorney Friday during a ceremony at the Boys and Girls Club of Rochester.

Outgoing District Attorney Mike Green administered the oath of office at the event.

Green says passing on D.A. torch is bitter sweet. But he says there's no other person who he'd rather succeed him than Doorely.

"She's worked hard ... she's been up to every single challenge that's been put in front of her in the last 20 years," says Green.

Doorley says she feels privileged to continue the legacy of her predecessors Mike Green and Howard Relin, who preceded Green as district attorney.

"I'm just so honored and humbled to have earned this privilege," Doorley says. "I really look forward to making the D.A.'s office the best in the state."

Doorely says she plans to begin her 4-year term creating a new trial division that'll focus on crime victims such as child, sex and elder abuse and domestic violence. She also says she plans to grow the special investigation unit to include more drug details and gun investigations.

Several local, state and federal leaders attended the event. They include Lieutenant Governor Bob Duffy, Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks and local Democratic Party Chairman and State Assemblyman Joe Morelle, Congresswoman Louise Slaughter and Representative Kathy Hochul.
