Deputies: Greece PD investigator's vehicle strikes and kills pedestrian

Monroe County Deputies say that an on-duty Greece Police investigator struck and killed a pedestrian near Spencerport on Saturday night. It happened around 9pm in the area of West Ridge Road and Trimmer Road.

Deputies say the investigator was driving his Greece PD unmarked car eastbound on Route 104 (West Ridge Road), when the car hit a 52 year old female pedestrian from the Town of Parma.

They say she was wearing dark clothing and was in the eastbound lane side of the road.

Authorities say the investigator immediately pulled over, called for help and began lifesaving efforts. But when EMS workers got there, it was determined that she had died.

Both deputies and the Greece Police Department responded, but the Monroe County Sheriff’s Offic will conduct the investigation.

Officials say the Greece officer is cooperating with the investigation. Greece Police have identified that investigator as Detective Kevin Klump, who has been with Greece PD for 8 years and has been a police officer for more than 17.

Klump was placed on paid administrative leave for the next few days while the department says he “processes this traumatic incident.” A statement from Greece PD says that is standard protocol.

The Greece Police Department says that, “As a Greece PD family, our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the woman who was killed, Detective Klump and his family and all first responders involved.”
