Elected officials joined representatives from LIFESPAN, Rochester Business Alliance and RIT to announce a three part Cybersecurity Panel Series to educate consumers and business owners about cybersecurity threats, and ways to protect against identity theft and internet fraud.

State Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle and Monroe County Legislator Justin Wilcox announced the panel series.

Morelle says in the past five years, one in four Americans has been a victim of identity theft, making it America's fastest growing crime.

The first cybersecurity panel meets November 17th at Temple B'rith Kodesh at 6pm.

The discussion will focus on steps consumers can take to protect themselves from phishing scams, and best practices for shopping online.

Subsequent panels will discuss ways businesses can protect themselves, and career opportunities available in cyber security.
