Cuomo Says NYS Is Looking Into A Leak Involving Radioactive Water At A Downstate Nuclear Plant

Governor Cuomo says he has learned of a leak involving radioactive-contaminated water at a downstate nuclear plant. Cuomo says the water leaked into the groundwater at the Indian Point Nuclear facility in Westchester County.

The governor says the company reported alarming levels at three monitoring wells, but Cuomo says the contamination has not migrated off site and does not pose an immediate threat to public health.

Cuomo says “this latest failure at Indian Point is unacceptable, “ and he has directed state officials to investigate, including working with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Cuomo had said in December there would be increased scrutiny at that facility after unplanned outages.
