Governor Cuomo says many people who are heading to their camps or summer homes near Lake Ontario this Memorial Day Weekend will discover for the first time just how much damage has been done due to flooding.
Speaking in Oswego County, Cuomo announced the Department of Environmental Conservation will operate during weekend hours starting this Memorial Day Weekend, and lasting all summer long.
He says many of the parcels along Lake Ontario are summer or weekend homes.
"So people coming up, seeing the damage for the first time, and understanding what they need to do. They need to get a permit, they can go to DEC, the DEC will be open when they need it, " he said.
Cuomo says the DEC's goal is to get those permits done within a day.
Cuomo also announced that $5 million dollars in grants are being made available for small businesses that have had physical damage due to the flooding.
He previously announced $10 million dollars in funding for municipalities to do public infrastructure work.
The DEC's Emergency Response Mobile Command Center in Monroe County is located at Parma Town Hall, 1300 Hilton Parma Road.
More flooding is expected along the lakeshore starting tomorrow with northeast winds expected to kick up waves up to five feet.
