Governor Cuomo was in Canandaigua on Tuesday to announce that the state will provide $3 million toward a plan to develop 21 acres of land along the north shore of Canandaigua Lake into residential, retail and commercial space.
Cuomo announced an additional $1.5 million on top of the $1.5 million already designated through the regional economic development council last year. He says the money will allow Phase 1 of the $120 million project to begin this year.
"This is the type of project the state will invest in all day long. There's a new attitude about upstate NY."
The project is expected to create 175 permanent jobs and 400 construction jobs. The North Shore development project was announced last year by Morgan-LeChase in conjunction with Hanlon Architecs, a local firm.
Richard Sands, the chairman of Constellation Brands, says revitalizing of the northern shore of Canandaigua Lake would be the catalyst for other economic developments in the Finger Lakes.
"Today, we are celebrating a moment at which economic development combines with unique attributes, results and benefits for residents and visitors, businesses and citizens alike."
Phase 1 construction is set to begin this year. Ontario County has already approved a payment-in-lieu of taxes agreement to aid the project.
