Crozer Divinity School To Sell Its Campus & Find A New Location

An historic building and campus in Rochester is in the process of being sold.

As Reverend Marvin McMickle, president of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School puts it, “We'd like to get out of the real estate business and get back into the education business,” and that's why the school is ready to sell the 24 acre campus, and an 85 year old building. It's located on South Goodman Street near Highland Park.

McMickle says they have a tentative buyer, a local real estate developer he would not name yet, whose purchase price could not only help Crozer Divinity find a new location, but also pay for other needs.

“We can increase student scholarships, we can perhaps add on additional faculty, we don’t know if we’re going to have to any renovation of a new location.”

McMickle says the current facility just doesn’t meet the need of the 130 or so students there.

“This school was built in 1928 to 1930, and it was designed as a residential campus. Dormitories, and refectories and other things to serve on-campus students. We are now a largely commuter school, a smaller student body, and we don’t need 24 acres of campus in order to accomplish our mission,” he told WXXI News.

McMickle says there are still a number of steps to be taken before the sale becomes final, and it's hoped Crozer Divinity could be in a new location in 2018, which also happens to be its bicentennial anniversary.
