With a Winter Storm Warning in place effective from 1 a.m. Friday, Monroe County has reminded residents to make preparations for the predicted snowy conditions.

The Winter Storm Warning and Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service is in effect in anticipation of the severe winter storm moving across the Northeast and New England Friday through to Saturday.

Allowing for adequate travel times, ensuring standby food and water supplies and warnings about safety procedures for using generators are all emphasized in the County's alert.

“The National Weather Service is predicting 8”-12” of snow on Friday of this week and I encourage families to prepare for this coming storm,” said Brooks. “Here in Monroe County we expect winter storms; however, these storms should not be taken lightly and all residents are highly urged to continue to use safe practices both on and off the road.”

WXXI will provide ongoing coverage as the story develops with updates on am1370 and online.
