Coming up on Connections: Wednesday, May 6th

NPR

First hour: New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof

Second hour: Fr. Roy Bourgeois

We open the show in conversation with New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof. He's traveled the globe, reporting on some of the most difficult challenges, from war to poverty to disease. We'll talk to him about we all can do our part to solve those problems, and we'll ask what he'd like the presidential candidates to talk about during campaign season.

Then we'll discuss how the media can do a more effective job in approaching the issues that Kristof discusses. In studio:

Tom Proietti, resident scholar in media, St. John Fisher College
Leah Stacy, communications professor at Nazareth College and editor-in-chief of 585 Magazine

In our second hour, Father Roy Bourgeois was a Catholic priest for 40 years, but the Vatican defrocked him in 2012 for supporting women in the priesthood. Bourgeois has spent his career advocating for equality and justice, from the rights of the poor and oppressed, to women's ordination. He's in Rochester on Wednesday night, but first, he's on Connections.
