First hour: How would a more robust public transit system change Rochester?
Second hour: National Urban League president, Marc Morial; The Joint Collegiate Black Student Summit
How would a more robust public transit system change Rochester? And what would it look like? The Community Design Center's Reshaping Rochester Series continues next week with the theme, Transportation as a Leveler. Two of the event's speakers join us on Connections to discuss the strategies they've used to improve public transit in cities like Tucson, Chicago, and Memphis, and how these successes have improved access to jobs, healthcare, and education. Our guests:
- Mo Duggan, executive director, Community Design Center of Rochester
- Roger Brown, creative Consultant, Community Design Center of Rochester
- Steve Farley, Arizona State Senator
- Jacky Grimshaw, vice president for policy, Center for Neighborhood Technology
In our second hour, we talk to Marc Morial, president and CEO of the National Urban League. He will be in Rochester on March 29 as a guest of the Urban League of Rochester. He joins Connections to talk about race in America and the Urban League's efforts to engage presidential candidates.
Then, students at the University of Rochester have teamed up to organize the first Joint Collegiate Black Student Summit (JCBSS), a national forum designed to discuss and develop viable solutions to the problems facing the black community. The summit will be held March 4-6 with the goal of further establishing an intercollegiate network of young black leaders passionate about social justice, collegiate accountability toward black students, and unity within the black community. Members of the planning committee join us in studio to give a preview of the event and to talk about issues faced by the black community. Our guests:
- Delvin Moody, chairman, JCBSS
- Caryl English, chairwoman, JCBSS
- Amber Hudson, director, JCBSS
