First hour: When faith and climate change collide
Second hour: Steve Miller said what?
Nazareth College is getting ready to host perhaps the first ever conference on the intersection of faith and the fight against climate change. The conference is called Sacred Texts and Human Contexts: Nature and Environment in World Religions. How does faith guide our approach to climate change? Is environmentalism a religious value? Our panel discusses it:
- Thomas Donlin-Smith, professor of religious studies at Nazareth College
- Etin Anwar, chair of religious studies at Hobart and William Smith Colleges
- Nancy Rourke, director of the Catholic Studies program at Canisius College
- Nathan Kollar, co-founder of the Hickey Center for Interfaith Studies at Dialogue
In our second hour: Legendary rocker Steve Miller alienated quite a few current musicians with his comments at his recent Hall of Fame induction. Miller's remarks struck some as entitled, ungracious, and lacking understanding in how difficult it is for modern musicians to make a living in the industry. We'll take a look at what he said, and we'll discuss the challenge of making it in music with local artists trying to break through. Our guests:
- Mel Muscarella, singer and keyboardist for Violet Mary
- Ishmael Raps, recording artist
- Travis Johansen, guitarist for Kopps and drummer for Northern Spies
- Mikaela Davis, singer and harpist
