Cold Weather Alert for Rochester's Homeless

www.oohlaladujour.blogspot.com

Expected cold weather and snow for the coming week concerns some who operate homeless shelters in Rochester.

On Sunday, Christopher Scribani of the Open Door Mission issued a “code blue” alert. Code blue is used when winter weather conditions pose a risk of hypothermia for anyone exposed to the cold for an extended period.

Under code blue, participating shelters are allowed to add beds to provide more warm places for the homeless.

In a statement to WXXI, Scribani advised that the alert begins Sunday evening and runs until further notice.

The National Weather Service predicts a cold week ahead, with highs in the teens and 20s and lows in the single digits on some nights.
