City officials introduced a new Rochester-based company today, the first launched by the city's Market Driven Community Corporation, or MDCC.
It's an initiative launched two years ago designed to build opportunities for residents in high poverty neighborhoods.
That first company is ENEROC, and it will install LED lighting in parking garages at Rochester Regional Health, according to Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren.
"Startups like ENEROC are a vital component to help support the ongoing mission of the Rochester-Monroe County Anti-Poverty Initiative to reduce poverty by 50 percent over the next 15 years," she said.
John Brewer is one of the workers for ENEROC, which provides workers with the opportunity to become worker-owners of the business.
"It's a good opportunity to come in and help get this project off the ground, and find a profitable job. It's a win-win for everyone," he said.
ENEROC has three employees right now, and the Mayor says the company is poised to generate 14 new jobs in its first year alone.
She says over the coming months, the Market Driven Community Cooperative will identify and establish new start-ups as well.
